I love Steven Covey’s 7th Habit of Highly Successful People: Sharpen the Saw. Here’s from that chapter,
Suppose you were to come upon someone in the woods working feverishly to saw down a tree.
“What are you doing?” you ask.
“Can’t you see?” comes the impatient reply. “I’m sawing down this tree.”
“You look exhausted!” you exclaim. “How long have you been at it?”
“Over five hours,” he returns, “and I’m beat! This is hard work.”
“Well, why don’t you take a break for a few minutes and sharpen that saw?” you inquire. “I’m sure it would go a lot faster.”
“I don’t have time to sharpen the saw,” the man says emphatically. “I’m too busy sawing!”
Sometimes we all need to sharpen our saws, get better at what we do by stopping to take and break and figure out if there are better, more efficient ways to do things. To that end, I’ve spent nights and weekends for the past several months completing Google’s Digital Marketing and E-Commerce Certificate.
Courses include topics like email marketing, data analytics, social media marketing, customer retention, and digital marketing. Even though I do these all on a daily basis, I filled half a notebook full of new ideas and better ways of doing things. So, after several months of sharpening my saw, I’m refreshed, refocused, and ready to continue helping our existing and new clients sell more online.
